Sony won't let retailers slash prices this holiday

The NYT reports that Sony Electronics will eliminate price competition on some CE products over the holidays.

Jay Vandenbree, the company’s president for consumer sales, said that retailers won't be allowed to slash prices on some CE products including high-end TVs.

Apparently, the move would eliminate stress for buyers.

“Consumers don’t have to worry about whether I can get a better deal at retailer A or retailer B,” he said. “Everybody gets the best deal.”

According to the story, Vandenbree said stores can now compete on other attributes, like education and support.

The Supreme Court ruled last year that manufacturers could indeed dictate minimum pricing for their resellers.
